Care Home "Outstanding News"
Herefordshire Care Homes is delighted to announce some good news after a challenging year.
Highwell House, one of the homes owned and run by Herefordshire Care Homes, learned recently that it had once again been rated as ‘outstanding’.
With an obligation to inspect within a determined timeframe, Highwell House was inspected, with its infection control one of the parameters it was rated on.
Owner Karen Rogers is keen to emphasise that, for all the challenges the year brought with it, “there has been a lot of learning and a lot of happiness.
“There was a real coming together to make sure people have a great life.
“I am really proud of the whole team, and the relationship of the team and the support that we have had from relatives and residents throughout the last 12 months. It has been incredible, so to have the home rated outstanding again is no more than they deserve.”
Highwell House manager Trudi Barnett picked up an award of her own – the National Award for Care Home Manager of the Year.
“It was fabulous to win the regional finals and then to have got through to nationals was a real honour,” said Ms Barnett.
“But it’s testament to the whole team. Throughout the last year they have been just phenomenal – I’m so proud of them all.”
Reflecting on what she brings to the role, Ms Barnett, a registered nurse for over 30 years, who has been at Highwell House for nine years, said: “When I first qualified I worked in acute medicine for a short time, but since then I have always worked in the older adults sector.
“I am very passionate about what I do, and it’s that passion and enthusiasm for caring for our residents that I bring to the role. Despite the challenges of the last year I remain as focused as I was before. I can’t imagine working anywhere else.”
